CCLXXXVIII
da Vinci's La Joconde
If there had been a poignant Song
inscribed upon The Leaf

She just might well have burned along
a sympathetic Grief

She might have made Th'Loveliest streak
across The Woods' attentive air

at last Quenched bluest creek
her scarlet flowing hair

but Silence of this tragic sort
is Lost, in fact, pale & Oblivion-scorned

--Even sad poets can't see the sport
her Smile must have adorned

Rossetti's La Ghirlandata
