"As You Like It" --of Jaques
All of you loved his quiet dampened mood.
While strangers strolled their sumptuous suppers off
through lanes of the greenest shades--he there stood
to lessen the hushed minds that'd scoff
at finding in his melancholy pause: less
than some wonderful lesson for their part
& yet you loved his gentle bating heart,
his subtle power of soft set cheerfulness
... strangers, glancing over these empty eyes
those hastily drawn lips would marvel that
so stilled a countenance should be the habitat
of gilded inclement Mind!... so soothing wise
as kindly crossed, or morbidly drawn from the dreams
of Death crowned with Life's radiant beams
